Summary:
- Bishop Gutierrez was accused of sexually abusing a male minor child on at least 6 occasions from approximately 1970 until approximately 1971 when the boy was approximately 11 to 12 years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Bishop Gutierrez was a visiting priest at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, New York.
- The sexual abuse by Bishop Gutierrez included the following: Bishop Gutierrez fondling the boy’s genitals skin on skin, and sometimes Bishop Gutierrez fondling himself while he fondled the boy’s genitals.
- The Diocese of Brooklyn agreed to settle the claim in the low to mid six figures 2021.
- Bishop Gutierrez died in February 2019.
