- Brother Joseph Stadtfeld was accused of sexually abusing a female minor child on at least 100 occasions from approximately 1972 until approximately 1981 when the girl was approximately five to fourteen years of age. The sexual abuse took place in Brother Stadtfeld’s bedroom at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, CA; in the garages of Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, CA; in a walk-in cooler on the fairgrounds of Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, CA; in the fields by Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, CA; and in Brother Stadfeldt’s car in or around Sierra Madre, CA.
- The sexual abuse by Brother Stadtfeld consisted of the following: Brother Stadtfeld would fondle the girl’s upper thighs skin son skin; Brother Stadtfeld would have the girl sit on his lap and the girl would feel Brother Stadtfeld’s erect penis on her body; Brother Stadtfeld would fondle the girl’s vagina over her clothes; Brother Stadtfeld would fondle the girl’s vagina skin on skin; Brother Stadtfeld would rub his penis on the girl’s vagina skin on skin; Brother Stadtfeld would rub his penis against the girl’s buttocks skin on skin; Brother Stadtfeld would digitally penetrate the girl’s vagina; Brother Stadtfeld would digitally penetrate the girl’s anus; Brother Stadtfeld would penetrate the girl’s vagina with his penis; Brother Stadtfeld would penetrate the girl’s anus with his penis; Brother Stadtfeld made the girl perform oral sex on him; Brother Stadtfeld would penetrate the girl’s vagina with a foreign object; and Brother Stadtfeld world penetrate the girl’s anus with a foreign object.
- The claim settled in 2025 in the mid seven figures. The claim also included separate sexual abuse by Brother Anthony Mimiaga, C.P. during the same time period.
