• Father Leonard P. Spanburgh was accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a male minor child from approximately 1974 when the child was approximately 9 years old to approximately 1977 when the child was approximately 12 years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Father Spanburgh was assigned to St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove, NJ, and the male child belonged to the parish and attended the parochial school. The sexual abuse occurred in the rectory of the church, as well as in Father Spanburgh’s car, and in a home in Vernon, NJ.
• The sexual abuse by Father Spanburgh included the following: Father Spanburgh performing oral sex on the male child; Father Spanburgh making the male child perform oral sex on him; Father Spanburgh digitally penetrating the male child’s anus; and Father Spanburgh fondling the male child’s genitals.
• The claim settled in 2025 in the mid six figures.
