Summary:
- Per the Grand Jury report, Father McKenna received treatment at the St. Luke Institute in 2004 and “withdrew from active ministry” that same year.
- Father Thomas McKenna was accused of sexually abusing a male minor child on at least ten occasions from approximately 1979 to 1981 when the male child was approximately thirteen to fifteen years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Father McKenna was assigned to St. Kieran’s Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the boy served as an altar boy at the church.
- The sexual abuse by Father McKenna included the following: Father McKenna reached into the front of the boy’s pants and underwear and grabbed and fondled the boy’s penis and testicles, skin-on-skin. Father McKenna also fondled the boy’s buttocks, skin-on-skin. Father McKenna sometimes forced the boy to fondle Father McKenna’s genitals.
- The claim settled in May 2020 in the low five figures.
