  • Monsignor Herman Heide was accused of sexually abusing a male minor child on approximately 100 occasions from approximately 1967 to 1969 when the male child was approximately ten to twelve years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Monsignor Heide was assigned to St. Joseph’s Church in New York, New York, and the boy was an altar boy at the church and a student at the parochial school affiliated with the church. The sexual abuse took place in the sacristy inside St. Joseph’s Church and inside St. Joseph’s School.
  • The sexual abuse by Monsignor Heide included the following: Monsignor Heide smacked the boy’s bare buttocks with a paddle; Monsignor Heide fondled the boy’s genitals, skin-on-skin; and Monsignor Heide sodomized the boy.
  • The claim settled in February 2020 in the low six figures.
