  • Father Gerald F. Lyons was accused of sexually abusing a female minor child on approximately four occasions from approximately 1964 to 1965 when the girl was approximately 4 to 5 years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Father Lyons was assigned to St. Anthony’s Church in Trenton, New Jersey.
  • The sexual abuse by Father Lyons occurred in the rectory affiliated with St. Anthony’s Church and included the following: Father Lyons would have the girl sit on his lap, and then he would reach into the front of her underwear, fondling her vagina, skin-on-skin, and penetrating her vagina with his finger.
  • The claim settled in 2020 in the low six figures.

Summary:
  • Monsignor Daniel Martin was accused of sexually abusing a male minor child on one occasion in approximately 1964 when the boy was approximately 15 years old. At the time of the sexual abuse, Monsignor Martin was assigned to Elk County Christian High School in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania, as its headmaster, and the boy was a student at the school. The sexual abuse occurred in Monsignor Martin’s office at the school.
  • The sexual abuse by Monsignor Martin included the following: Monsignor Martin made the boy pull down the boy’s pants and underwear; Monsignor Martin made the boy lay across Monsignor Martin’s lap; Monsignor Martin spanked and fondled the boy’s bare buttocks; and Monsignor Martin fondled and masturbated the boy’s penis until the boy ejaculated.

  • Father Maslar was accused of sexually abusing a female minor child on at least 2 occasions from approximately1971 to approximately 1972 when the girl was approximately 15 to 16 years old.
  • At the time of the sexual abuse, Father Maslar was assigned to Kolbe High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut while the girl attended Marian Heights Academy in Monroe, Connecticut. Father Maslar visited Marian Heights on a number of occasions to perform Mass.
  • The sexual abuse by Father Maslar involved the following: Father Maslar kissing the girl on the mouth, Father Maslar fondling the girl’s breasts and genitals, Father Maslar having the girl fondle Father Maslar’s genitals, and Father Maslar having the girl perform oral sex on Father Maslar.
  • The Conventual Franciscans agreed to settle the claim in the high five figures in 2021.
